The Album

Perfect classic indie pop from The Train Set.

This compilation on Firestation Records features the band’s much sought-after singles released on Manchester’s Play Hard Records, including NME single of the week ‘She’s Gone’ from 1988. This was recognised as a stunning debut by the press. Writing in NME, James Brown said ‘The Train Set have done their growing up in private and will now have no trouble copping off with the entire teenage nation of orphaned Smiths fans’. And Stuart Maconie described ‘She’s Gone’ as ‘sleek and shiny, fizzy and witty’, predicting ‘The Train Set will be huge when the world sees sense’. Well, while we wait for the world to take heed, immerse yourself in these finely crafted songs.

As well as the singles, this selection contains previously unreleased tracks from a band that had promised so much but disappeared down the tracks far too soon. The band have now come together to oversee the release of this retrospective album which is a vital listening experience. This collection remains a primer for smart Indie rock bands and fans now and in the future; it brings together a selection of The Train Set’s material for the first time. Immerse yourself in these finely crafted songs and enjoy a band that made a significant impact on the music scene amongst the abundant indie/jangle bands of that era.

This is really happening

We’ve remastered all the old tracks and enhanced the unheard recordings. The artwork created and the sleeve copy done. We even agreed on a name for the album.

The Train Set album entitled ‘Never California’ will be available soon on Firestation Records.

There’s previously unheard material on the new album, including a track only played once on the radio on the John Peel show.

There will only be a limited run of the CD, so don’t hang around to get your copy as soon as possible.
